Travel Day - Quebec to New York

Megs Typing

We set off to the airport in Quebec, the only place we could get a car was Hertz from this location.  After a small hiccup - NO GPS is the size of car we wanted, therefore an upgrade to a car with an inbuilt GPS.  Hertz appears to be the only car rental place that does not have portable GPS units - convenient - I THINK NOT.

Hiccups resolved and we were on the road again - only 830km to New York City.  The drive took us through sunshine, snow, blizzards, gale force winds and gently breezes.  The experienced all weather drivers we now are, cleaned windows, headlights and side mirrors with regular frequency. All went according to plan, including the interesting conversation (with about 10 000 questions) with border security as we crossed the Canadian/USA border.

I was driving - not my usual plan.  You may have noticed that Elona usually drives in the city prior to me - I have always refused to drive in Sydney - scary.  I entered Manhattan via the Brooklyn bridge, Elona was full of excitement, whilst my only concern was that the bridge was longer than the 1.3km that Henrietta Hertz (the navigation system we upgraded to from Nancy Navigator) informed me I had to travel before I turned right (into the Hudson - I don't think so).  Finding our accommodation and negotiating the streets between West 70th street and West 75th Street via either Broadway or Amsterdam was relatively easy.  The hard part was the additional half an hour it took to locate a legal street park within walking distance to the apartment, well that and contacting my sister Sarah to meet us.

Within an hour of exiting right off the Brooklyn bridge, we had located a car park only a block and half a way which Elona magnificently reverse parallel parked in ( not easy when yore on the wrong side of the car) and made contact with Sarah.  We are getting really good at this travel thing.

Up graded car with Henrietta Hertz already installed
